Lafayette School Council Meeting
October 2, 2019 

  1. Introductions
  2. School Safety & Security: Lockdown, Shelter-in-Place, Fire Drills, and Evacuation:  There will be full evacuation drill later this month.  The school will evacuate and proceed to the high school.  The staff will be notified a week prior as to when the event will take place.
  3. Class Size: The Lafayette School is up to 1007. Class sizes are growing daily especially in grade k, 1 and 2
  4. MCAS: According to the Preliminary Accountability Report, the Lafayette school improved in mathematics and had a slight decline in ELA. The focus this year will be improving in both categories by concentrating on building comprehension skills in ELA and number sense in Mathematics.
  5. School Improvement Plan: The Lafayette School has developed a school wide improvement plan. Included in the plan are steps the school will be taking to show improvements in specific areas of need. This year an action plan has been designed to target comprehension skills in ELA.
  6. At-Risk student/Late Days: All “at-risk” students will asked to stay after-school with a staff member to receive extra help. The “at-risk” list of students will be closely monitored to track these students’ progress throughout the year.
  7. Enrollment- The current enrollment at the Lafayette School is up to 1007 students.
  8. Fall Festival: The Lafayette School will have their Fall Festival on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 from 4:00-6:00pm. There will many fun activities for children and their families to participate in.
  9. Parent Conferences: Parent conferences will be on Thursday, October 10, 2019 from 5:00- 7:00pm.
  10. PTO Fundraising: The PTO will continue to sell Lafayette School t-shirts and sweatshirts.
  11. Parent Involvement 1st Meeting: September 13, 2019, at 8 a.m. Mr. Brady and Mr. Lambresa had a very successful parent breakfast on Friday, September 13th with over 150 in attendance. During this event, they discussed future school events and the strong family and school connection the Lafayette School continually encourages.  In addition, the Title 1 staff spoke about their roles and shared family activities for parents to promote learning at home with their children.
  12. Leadership Team -The leadership team continues to meet weekly. The focus of these meetings is to discuss ways to encourage a positive growth mindset in the building. Different ideas are also shared about implementing school wide positive initiatives and promoting a climate of inclusivity for all children to feel comfortable in.

Lafayette School Council Meeting
September 4, 2019 

  1. Introductions

  3. ALICE Training: There will be ALICE Training available in the near future. More staff members at the Lafayette School will attend.
  4. Enrollment: At the present time enrollment is at 997. It is projected that more students will be registering within the next few weeks.
  5. New Staff Members: There is mostly new EL and SPED faculty.  There is a new fourth-grade classroom teacher, sixth-grade classroom teacher and seventh-grade math classroom teacher.  In addition, there is a new Math Interventionist and Reading Interventionist, as well as five student teachers from Endicott College.
  6. Building Schedule: The building schedule had a few adjustments, however clear schedules are in place in all subject areas that teachers and students are following.
  7. PTO Fundraiser: The school is trying to recruit more PTO Members. Mr. Brady will have a meeting today with the PTO to discuss future school events and PTO fundraising ideas.
  8. Parent Involvement 1st Meeting: September 13, 2019, @8:00 am. Mr. Brady and Mr. Lambresa will be having a parent breakfast for all parents on September 13.   10. Questions: All School Council Members have agreed to hold School Council Meetings at 7:00 am.
